Senior Day: A Last Stand at Floyd Stadium

Today at 2:00 p.m. CT, the Blue Raiders take the field at Floyd Stadium in Murfreesboro for their final home game of the 2025 season; a senior-day celebration for 20 men in blue and silver.

The opponent: Sam Houston Bearkats, sitting at 2-8 (1-5 in CUSA) and riding a two-game win streak.

For MTSU, things haven’t gone to plan this year with the team at 1-9 and still seeking that elusive home victory.

What’s at stake

  • Pride. A chance to give the seniors one last moment in front of the home crowd. Coach Derek Mason has leaned into the “protect this house” message.

  • Momentum. The offense showed signs of life last week, with freshman QB Roman Gagliano producing a breakout performance (383 passing yards, 88 rushing) in his first home start.

  • Historical significance. MTSU has never completed a full season without a home win since Floyd Stadium opened back in 1933, so todays result could be more than just a game.

Keys to victory for the Blue Raiders

  1. Keep the offense rolling. The sudden surge in yardage last week needs to carry into today, so consistency will matter.

  2. Get the senior class a moment to shine. Whether it’s a special play, a drive, or simply a strong finish, letting the veterans leave with something meaningful will resonate.

  3. Force mistakes and capitalize. Facing a Bearkats team that has struggled early but fought back, MTSU must stay disciplined and convert turnovers or big plays into points.

Don’t overlook the Bearkats

Sam Houston may be 2-8, but they arrive in Murfreesboro with renewed energy and confidence from their recent wins. Their only wins on the season thus far are Oregon State (2-9) & Delaware (5-6).

Expect some massive change ups today from both teams, as injuries have plagued both rosters, especially the Bearcats, who lost their starting QB forward the season, and will not burn their freshman’s redshirt.

The series stands at 2-1 in favor of the Bearkats, so the Blue Raiders know they’re in for a fight.

Final note

This isn’t just another game. For some, it’s their last in that blue & silver jersey at home. For the younger guys, it’s an opportunity to see what they can build from. Senior Day is as much about honoring the past as it is about looking to the future. MTSU has a chance to leave Floyd Stadium on a high note.. let’s hope they seize it.
